In the wine industry learning never stops.  It is a business  where we are always learning.  Just when you think you know everything you find out there is more and more and more.  That is why this is such a interesting and diverse business to be in.  With that in mind we wanted to post some simple but fun facts about wines.  If you have something unique please send in so we can post it and share with our community:


1)       WHAT IS MALOLATIC FERMENTATION?  IT IS A PROCESS THROUGH THE ACTION OF BACTERIA, MALIC ACID IN THE MUST IS CONVERTED TO SOFTER-TASTING LACTIC ACID. MOST RED WINES ALSO GO MALOLATIC FERMENTATION.

2)       WHEN IS THE FIRST CROP OF GRAPES HARVESTED IN A YOUNG VINEYARD?  IT IS NORMALLY HARVESTED IN THE THIRD YEAR OR THIRD LEAF.

5)       IS SYRAH AND SHIRAZ THE SAME GRAPE?  YES THEY ARE.  SHIRAZ IS THE WORKHORSE GRAPE OF AUSTRALIA. IN THE OLD WORLD LIKE FRANCE SYRAH, SAME GRAPE, IS BOTH A STAND ALONE VARIETAL AND ALSO A BLENDING GRAPE.

6)       WHAT IS A CHAMPAGNE? IT IS A SPARLKING WINE MADE OUT OF CHARDONNAY, PINOT NOIR OR PINOT MEUNIER AND IT CAN ONLY COME FROM A REGION IN FRANCE KNOW AS CHAMPAGNE.

7)       WHERE IS MALBEC GROWN BEST?  IT IS GROWN BEST IN THE MENDOZA REGION OF ARGENTINA.  IT WAS ORIGINALLY FROM BORDEAUX FRANCE BUT ARGENTINA HAS TAKING IT TO ANOTHER LEVEL.

8)      GUESS HOW MANY GRAPE VARIETALS ARE ALLOWED TO GROW IN THE RIOJA REGION OF SPAIN? ANSWER
